ARMA, stylized as ARMA, is a series of first-person tactical military shooters originally developed for Microsoft Windows. The series emphasizes realism and simulation, combining large-scale military operations spanning expansive terrains with intense close-quarters combat. The first installment was launched in 2006, with subsequent titles released up to 2013. Over time, ARMA games have become available on various platforms, including Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS.
The inaugural game, titled ARMA: Armed Assault (known as ARMA: Combat Operations in the United States), debuted on Windows in November 2006 in the Czech Republic and Germany, followed by a European release in February 2007, and finally in the United States in May 2007. It was built on the Real Virtuality 2 engine.
The latest entry, ARMA 3, is a standalone sequel for Windows, launched on September 12, 2013, utilizing the more advanced Real Virtuality 4 engine. It was first made accessible to players via Steam’s Early Access program on March 5, 2013. In late 2015 and early 2016, ARMA 3 was also released in early versions for Linux and Mac, aiming to align these platforms with the primary Windows version in the future.
