Ariel is a character created for Walt Disney Pictures’ 28th animated film, “The Little Mermaid” (1989). She is the central figure of the movie and is known for her subsequent appearances in the film’s prequel TV series (1992—1994), direct-to-video sequel “The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea” (2000), and direct-to-video prequel “The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning” (2008). The character of Ariel is consistently voiced by Jodi Benson in all official animated productions and associated merchandise. In the Disney Princess lineup, Ariel holds the fourth position.
